Populating Avalon

OK, I swore that my next post would actually have story in it, but I lied. I’ve been staring at the next post on and off for days and not producing any text. I’m sure it will pass. There’s nothing wrong with the post plot itself; I think it’s cute.

Since 100% of you voters voted for Avalon, it’s not a big reveal that I’ve been working on it. I have almost all the public lots laid, and I LOVE it. It’s hard to create this many lots in the base game. I would like to download Create A World, but I am a Mac user. I’m casting about for access to Windows someplace so I can see how the more sophisticated lot placement works.

It’s listed as a medium-sized world, but it is LOT smaller than Sunset Valley. I think this will be a good thing for performance, but it has left me with only a few places where a lot as large as 40×40 will fit, and everything else has to be smaller. It was surprisingly hard to find an art museum and a library in the range of 30×30, but I’m thrilled with what I tracked down. I’ve been keeping a list of my downloaded lots and their locations so that I can both give credit and refer you guys to them.

I’m now working on residential neighborhoods. And here I get to the point of the post.

For genetic diversity, I’m going to be downloading a bunch of celebrity simselves and interesting faces from Mod the Sims. I’d really like to fill the rest of the place out with legacy families.

So here’s an invitation to export your family (it’d be nice if it were the whole family, since I need sims of all ages) and send me a link. It’ll be the ultimate in cross-pollination :).

And let me know if you’d like them to be made into Elves or not. By default, they’ll probably be Elfified :).

  1. First of all, I love the word "elfified"! 😉
I can put up my sims for downloading, although almost all of them are teenagers now. Still, they could fit in 🙂 And I could try to make them children again if there's any need for that.

  2. Since Gen 5 will be teens, I don't necessarily consider this to be a problem :). However, it might be useful to make at least Julia a child for balance.

You can export the whole household from Edit Town, I think. That would be ideal because if they're individual sims, I'll just need to put them back into a household.

  3. Hmmm… Most of mine have gone up as individuals, either teen or young adult. I can try to export the family, though (elders, adults, teen) next time I play if you want. Or when anyone gets busy with a family of their own, I'll export them for the next generation!

I have households and individual Sims (Berg would be the Legacy Sims and there are two versions depending on how many Sims you want).

Generation 2 and 3 with a possible pregnant Sim, but I don't know if that will still be there after an upload. This was from after the heir was decided.

Generation 1, 2, and 3 as children, toddlers, and babies.

I also have me and my husband up there if you want them, although not as a household because I forgot to do that and I am not sure if we are currently in the game.

  5. Hello! What a surprise to see you! Thanks, and I'll definitely load them. It would be great to get a pregnant sim, so we'll see what happens.

Are you planning to return to the Bergs?

  6. I have the Berg's neighborhood backed up on DVD and a thumb drive so I do plan to return to them eventually. I think the problem was the last few times I played I was forgetting to do things like take pictures and even save the game (I still forget to save progress on all of the Sim stuff I have tried to do since then) which makes it a little hard to really update since I loose so much. Hopefully my new doctors will be able to help me with the memory problems (lots of tests coming up on that) and then I can get back to more regular playing.

Thank you for the compliment on the avatar, which it is my SimSelf, and it is as close as I could get to how I look with a Sim. Kevin's is fairly accurate as well although every time I see either of them I think of ways I could tweak them to make them closer, but then it just get further away from reality so I am trying to leave them alone.

  7. Do you want or can use a berry family? It's all that I have in as a household right now, but the children have 'elven' ears in the latest household.

  8. My simself household is on the exchange, and I've got an earlier version of the Bookabet Household minus the twins that I need to upload. My current household has more sims than is allowed by EA (thanks Master Controller!). I'm planning on reading your legacy from the next generation onwards, and trying to catch up on the earlier posts when I can! I've been so busy in work that I haven't had the time to catch up on my favourite legacy families 🙁

  9. Well, it looks like you had them all up as individual downloads except Gwyn. Would you be willing/able to upload her? I can set them to the ages I like.

  10. Let me know if/when you've uploaded the current generation to the exchange, Amhranai! I can set them to ages that will suit the population.

  11. Sob. None of the individual Hodginses will install. I don't know if this has something to do with the "system error" you got while trying to upload them.

  12. I'd love to download your household! Probably no more than 8 sims, though. I doubt the Exchange would let you upload that, and I'm not sure I could install it. Heh!

Let me know when it's available!

  13. Actually, it looks like the problem was on my end. I'm having trouble with a ton of Sims3Pack files all of a sudden. The solution appears to be what the solution always is — more custom content. I am using a custom installer that seems to be working fine. I THINK that means all I need is Gwyn.

  14. Aw, I'd love for the Callenders and/or Simptoms to get elfified!!! But…don't know that I can get them up for you b/c of my lack of internets. 🙁 Maybe another day…

  15. I can't upload it. Stupid exchange!!

Next time I load my game, I'll try and upload Adam and Arya separately so at least you can create your own household! Franco and Ceridwen are already uploaded, as are Gelert and Artemis (if you plan to include pets that is!) Berrified Gelert will be interesting!

  16. I've uploaded Arya and Adam separately, but I've also uploaded the household as it currently stands minus baby #5, so it has 10 sims in total which EA allows!! It's completely up to you what you do with them 🙂

  17. I would really like to have the Callenders in particular, just because I've been tracking them so much longer :). What is your internet situation? Do you just have internet at work?

Well, I'm perfectly happy to upload them whenever you can make them available. It's not like there's a hard deadline. Families can always move into town.

  18. Bookabets downloaded! I'll get them into the game tonight, probably :).

I think that 6 human sims and 4 pets are actually legal in the unmodded game. I have some memory that Pets added some pets-only household slots, so the 8 limit is just for humans.

  19. I only have internet at work right now, and when I'm at the Ils…hopefully, that will change soon, though. Also, I have to figure out HOW to upload them without using the Exchange, bc that doesn't work for me for some reason…I'll see if I can work something out, 'cause I'd really love for them to wreck your town — er, I mean be included. 😉

  20. Hee. Well, when you save a household to the household library, then click it in Edit Town and select "Share," it gets saved to an Exports directory, and you can put that file on a thumb drive, transfer it around, and put it up anyplace for download you like. You have to HAVE someplace to put it. I don't know much about free download services, sadly.

  21. You could try something like Dropbox, maybe? Or mediafire? I don't remember if Dropbox allows for easy sharing, I think it does, but I haven't used it for ages. Mediafire seems to be the usual place people throw things.

    Hope that helps.

  22. Hmmm…I've used Mediafire to dl stuff before and was considering using it as a host for stuff; never heard of Dropbox. Also didn't know that I could put them on a thumbdrive…excellent! I will experiment with it tonight and see if I can get something up tomorrow! Thanks for ya'll's help. 😀

  23. Success! Well…at least, I think it's a success. Both January and February are being hosted on MediaFire; you can get to them via my Family tab on the Callender's site. I had no idea what I was doing when I was first figuring out how to save families, so I never binned everyone, and I do not have most of the male players (Hector, Cameron, Connor, ect.)

However…because everyone loves him so much, Martin Luther can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?bs2aw2rqihs9iqc. Technically, I guess it's a spoiler, but eh. Also, he — they — are both elders, but you can age them down if you like. Have fun! 🙂

Oh, and let me know if it doesn't work…I tried with January and it seemed to do fine, but ya never know.

  24. Ok, I think I've finally figured out the process. This should be everyone, if it's not, let me know.

It also turns out that I wasn't anywhere near as caught up as I thought I was. All three kids are, well, kids, now. Ali's a couple of days from being a teen, but I have so much to cover that I decided not to play on and age her up.

Feel free to Elfify them by the way, and if you like you can cheat U & Becky back to marital bliss. Or not. I don't hugely mind either way. If you don't though, I expect Becky will end up finding a new man and moving out at some point, and I'd still like to receive updates about her if that's the case (assuming that you keep doing the 'this is what everyone's doing segments'.

  25. Do you still want people for the hood? I mean this was like… *cough* two and half months ago. But if you're interested in a pregnant Lynn and Cycl0n3, I'd be happy to upload them for you. 🙂

  26. Right now, I seem to have the town stuffed to the gills. But I will make space for Lynn and her kid!

Cyclone is a bit of a problem, since Cyclone is Charles's dad. Adding a new copy of him is problematic for story and technical reasons, since I still have my game's Cyclone's gravestone in the family graveyard.

So I think that I might have to axe Cyclone and make Lynn a single mom. Think that would work?

  27. I can do that. 🙂 Lol, I actually didn't think about the problems that Cycl0n3 would cause! Sorry about that.
Are you interested in the Thiels at all? I mean, I know they're not that exciting, but I happen to have a saved copy of most of the generations, I mean, I didn't know if you were interested in gen 3/4 or not.

  28. I love the idea of Charles having a half-sibling from another dimension 🙂 :). If you wait until the kid is born, you could either upload the household to the Exchange and I could delete Cyclone, or you could upload Lyn and the kid separately when the kid is a toddler.

Are we friends on the Exchange? I don't think so. I'm Echowever — note the missing "a" in Echoweaver, which is a typo that EA won't let me fix.

  29. Oh yeah, and I think I'll wait on the Thiels until I've read more on that legacy. The town is pretty full at the moment. I think the problem is that the houses I uploaded don't have enough beds in them, and I have Twallan's house inspection running, so sims moved out to fill up all the starter homes. I'll take a look at the bed problem and do some reshuffling.

  30. Okay! 🙂 After the kid is born I'll upload the family to the exchange.
That's cool about the Thiels, I wasn't sure how full your hood was. Honestly, I just think it's kind of cool that Lynn and her kid will probably get to go to Avalon. I don't think any of my sims have really been outside my game before. 😀
